The relationship between Valve and EA continues to disintegrate as Dragon Age II has been removed from the Steam store.

That now means that Steam is completely devoid of any games published by EA.

Whether it was Valve or EA that instigated the removal of Dragon Age II is unknown however it would make most sense for EA to pull the game so it is exclusive to their Origin store. This could cost EA games sales though as Steam has a significantly larger user base than Origin at this point.

—UPDATE—

It appears Valve were the ones who removed Dragon Age II from Steam, not EA, according to David DeMartini, SVP of Global E-Commerce for Ea in a statment given to IGN.

“At EA, we offer our games and content to all major download services including GameStop, Amazon, Direct2Drive and Steam.”

“Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content. No other download service has adopted this practice. Consequently some of our games have been removed by Steam.”

“We hope to work out an agreement to keep our games on Steam.”

While Steam is a great service that offers a whole bunch of great games at low prices there is one major problem and that is that you don’t actually own any of the games you pay for on Steam – as Reddit user Bethomond found out.

Bethomond had their account suspended due to a disputed payment on three games. The freeze on their account meant that they couldn’t play ANY of the games they had previously purchased which amounted to thousands of dollars worth. For more details on the case you can click the image below to read the customer service email Bethomond received.

When you buy a game on Steam you have to play the game through the Steam client. This means that should you have your account frozen, or forget your details, then you might just lose every game you’ve ever paid for on Steam.

That’s a scary thought for many gamers.
