Why Online Play Is Ruining Gaming

When I sit playing games on my consoles or surfing the net reading game news, I wonder to myself, on which format will games appear next. Video games have surfaced in many different formats which include cartridges, cassettes, CD-ROMs, GD-ROMs (Sega Dreamcast for those who remember), DVD-ROMs, Blu-ray discs and are now being shipped digitally. Where can gaming go from here? Teleportation? Click a button and you are transported into the game? Or will gaming die because no-one wants to play any more?

Gaming has evolved over the years from a child’s toy in the mid ’80s to a multi-billion pound business in the 2000s, with many games consoles now being the “entertainment hub” of a household. Where consoles were once used to play games, they’re now used for anything from chatting to friends to renting films. It’s common to hear of a dad owning a PS3 to play Need for speed, a mum owning a Wii and balance board to stay in shape and a kid owning an XBOX 360 to talk to mates on twitter while playing FIFA 12. Games consoles were once aimed at kids, but are now owned by everyone in the family. But with this comes a price. Consoles are now no longer about the games.

Development On Tekken X Street Fighter At “Zero Percent”

Looking forward to Tekken X Street Fighter? Well don’t hold your breath for it because according to Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada the development of the game is at “zero percent”.

It’s not all bad though as it’s about “five percent” in his mind.

“Currently, the development of Tekken x Street Fighter is at zero percent. It’s developing about five percent in my head,” he said.

At this moment in time it would seem that the focus of Tekken developers is on Tekken Tag 2.

“I was really busy and also SF x Tekken and the Tekken x SF were not originally in the line-up. We were also working on Tekken Tag Tournament 2 at that time, so we haven’t got on the development of Tekken x Street Fighter. But Tag 2 is nearly finished, so when I get back from Paris, I plan to start working on that game.”

Harada has also asked Twitter users to tweet him suggestions for the game. Follow him @harada_tekken to make your voice heard.

South Park Headin’ On Up To Xbox 360

Comedy Central’s creative director of games revealed that the Xbox 360 would receive a second helping of South Park goodness after the success of South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense Play.

Prithvi Virasinghe confirmed that the studio is in discussion with Microsoft about bringing the adventures Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman to the Xbox 360.

“Right now, South Park is actually in a first-party deal with Microsoft Studios, who published the first game, and they’re doing a second game as well,”

In further news on Comedy Central games Virasinghe spoke about wanting to create a game based on Stephen Colbert – the mock right-wing bringer of “truthiness”.

“It has to be the right combination of game idea meets property,” he said.

One thing is for sure, the new South Park game will certainly be no Chef’s Luv Shack.
